Shaykh Ismail is the father of Dato' Haji Zainal Abidin @ Songkok Tinggi (Shah Alam). Ismail Alyamani married Maimunah bt Zainal (Nya Intan) of Klang. Ismail Alyamani (Ami Ismail Alyamani) is the father of Uncle Haji Zainal Abidin bin Ismail Alyamani (Songkok Tinggi) who lives in Batu Tiga in Shah Alam, Selangor. Nya Intan is the elder daughter of Tok Moyang Zainal Abidin bin Ismail (Tok Moyang Zenal) of Klang. 

I met Tok Moyang Zainal (Klang) once at his home in Klang. It was a brick single-storey terraced house. He was very old, plump, and with straight grey hair. He looked Chinese. He sat at the head of the table while talking to Bapak. He wore a white Pagoda singlet with sleeves and a blue-white kain pelikat with square motif. Nenek Klang wasn't there at the time, but I met her later when she helped to look after my eldest brother, Mohd Sharif. I also saw his 2 daughters who looked Chinese, Nya Intan and Nya Elok. His 2 daughters were thin and tall. They wore baju kebaya panjang. I didn't see his son Mohd Arshad at the time.

What happened to Abdul Rashid bin Abdul Aziz? He did not marry. He lived in Jelutong. His nephew helped to look after him when he was old and ill till he died. He died on 5 May 2021 (aged about 77). He is buried on 6 May 2021 near his parents at Kubur Jelutong beside Masjid Jamek Jelutong.

NAKHODA NAN INTAN

Sheikh Ahmad Makawi was an Arab from Makkah. He sailed the coastline of the Indian subcontinent, Burma and transited at Langkawi before he landed at Batu Uban in Penang. Batu Uban already had an early Minangkabau settlement since 1730.

In Batu Uban, he most probably met with Nakhoda Nan Intan, who was the (first) imam of Masjid Batu Uban in Penang (which he built in 1734).

SITI KECHIK ROKIAH BT SHAIKH ABDUL RAHMAN AL-BAGHDADI

Siti Kechik Rokiah bt Shaikh Abdul Rahman al-Baghdadi (Batu Uban) married to Ahmad bin Abdullah bin Dato' Jenaton (b.1852). 

Siti Kechik Rokiah was known as Siti Rokiah Kecik or Long Rokiah. The 2 other call names could be the same individual or different individuals from different mothers (same father).

My comments:
Rokiah was probably the eldest daughter but was of small build. Thus, Siti Kechik Rokiah and Siti Rokiah Kecik could allude to her small stature or build while Long Rokiah could indicate her as being the eldest, from the word "sulong" and shortened to "Long". It is rare that a father would name his daughters by similar names.

NAKHODA

My comments:
We have to be careful with the word Nakhoda and with whom it is associated. The word Nakhoda Nan Intan is associated with the Minangkabau ship's captain, and he was a Sunni Muslim.

However, Nakhoda (used singly) is also separately associated with the Shiah sect and the followers can be found in Singapore. Shiah is banned in Malaysia but is allowed in Singapore and elsewhere.

NAKHODA NAN INTAN'S FAMILY TREE

Nenek Umi Kalthom's husband, Tok Shaikh Mohamed read the family tree in tulisan Jawi which was prepared by Nakhoda Nan Intan's people. He couldn't see very well so Affandi lent him his low-powered glasses. Even with the glasses on, Tok Shaikh Mohamed could hardly read Nakhoda's family tree. I think the tulisan Jawi was so small and very difficult to decipher.

Tok Sk Mohamed bin Sk Ali bin Sk Mohd Hassan Al-Khaiyath. He is holding the document that has Nakhoda Nan Intan's family tree. Nakhoda Nan Intan's family tree was kept by Nenek Umi Kalthom at her Batu Uban home in Penang.

The link between the Malacca Arabs and the Penang Arabs is via Ami Aziz Alyamani. Ami Aziz Alyamani was the younger brother of Pahmah. Ami Aziz Alyamani was a man of small stature in old age. However, Tok Kalthom (Batu Uban) said Ami Aziz Alyamani had a big build. 

There were 2 men named Aziz in Jelutong, Penang. Ami Aziz Alyamani was of small build. The other man, Aziz Ibrahim, was a man of big frame. He was a politician. His biodata is in the Penang Free School magazine.

I'm referring to Ami Aziz Alyamani, the man of small stature, who had once owned the European car business in Jalan Anson, Penang, and who married two wives - 1. Siti Rahmah bt Abdul Rashid Makawi and 2. Aishah bt Abdullah (Nek Jepun).

Bapak never mentioned the full name of Pahmah and Ami Aziz Alyamani or their father. I therefore asked Shaik Abdul Aziz Al-Khaiyath - the son of Tok Kalthom in Kg Batu Uban, Penang.

Bapak had told me that Pahmah (Siti Fatimah bt Sheikh Mohamad bin Salem Alyamani) was fair like a Chinese (putih macam Cina). Pahmah could be a Nyonya. Pahmah's younger brother was Abdul Aziz bin Sheikh Mohamad (Ami Aziz Al-Yamani).

Tok Moyang Haji Mohd Sharif bin Ismail married Nenek Moyang Pahmah @ Siti Fatimah bt Sheikh Mohamad bin Salem Alyamani, and they had 5 children, a son and 4 daughters.

1. Mohd Yusope @ Walid (Bapak's father) - Mohd Yusope was my paternal grandfather
2. Amnah - married to Haji Ahmad bin Haji Abdul Latiff (HABHAL) in Singapore (pengusaha kicap HABHAL selepas perang)

Abdul Aziz bin Sheikh Mohamad (Ami Aziz Al-Yamani) married and lived in Penang, in a small Malay wooden house by the sea at Jelutong Beach.

However, there was another place I met Ami Aziz Alyamani, during Hari Raya Aidilfitri - at an endmost white shophouse where Nek Jepun lived. It was a shophouse by a big tree, before he lived at the yellow house at Hutton Lane. 

Did Ami Aziz marry 2 ladies? Yes, he married Nek Jepun later, but did not have any children with her. She had previously married a policeman. They adopted a Chinese girl as their daughter (Mazlifah Aziz). Both Nek Jepun and her adopted daughter often returned to Tokyo, Japan.

Tok Chu is Mohd Nor Merican, the father of Datuk Prof Dr Ahmad Murad Merican.

The children of Ami Aziz Alyamani & Siti Rahmah Abdul Rashid Makawi (Fatmah Alyamani and Abdul Latif Alyamani) are my father's uncle and aunt (bapa saudara dan ibu saudara).

They are my paternal granduncles and grandaunt (nenek & datuk saudara sebelah Bapak).

Level 4
The children of Fatmah Alyamani (Syed Mohamad, Sharifah Mahani, Syed Ali, Syed Mansor, Syed Yussuf and Syed Abdullah) and the children of Abdul Latif Alyamani (Najib, Nawal, Najwa & Salwa) are my father's cousins.

They are my paternal aunts and uncles (ibu saudara & bapa saudara sebelah Bapak).

Level 5
The children of Syed Mohamad, Sharifah Mahani, Syed Ali, Syed Mansor, Syed Yussuf and Syed Abdullah and Najib, Nawal, Najwa and Salwa, are my father's distant nephews & nieces.

They are my distant second cousins (sepupu bau bacang).

- Biography of Dr SM Baboo

Both Mr Abdul Aziz Ibrahim and Dr SM Baboo were involved in politics in Penang.

The Singapore Free Press on 5 December 1952 reported that Dr SM Baboo (UMNO-Muslim) and Mr Aziz Ibrahim (Radical) were defeated in 1951. Dr Baboo was a private medical practitioner who represented Kelawei Ward. Mr Aziz Ibrahim was a publisher and represented Jelutong.[1]

Mr Aziz Ibrahim's wife was also in politics but she also lost in the 1951 elections.
