Among the 9 Walisongo, there is Sunan Gunung Jati. Sunan Gunung Jati was well-known for his ability to treat diseases. This news reached the Emperor of China, of the Ming Dynasty.
The Ming Emperor Hong Gie invited Sunan Gunung Jati to China to test Sunan Gunung Jati's ability. The Emperor presented 2 of his princesses to Sunan Gunung Jati and asked him to point out which of his 2 princesses was pregnant (only one princess was pregnant). At first Princess Ong Tien Nio was not pregnant but used an object to make her look pregnant. So Sunan Gunung Jati pointed to Princess Ong Tien Nio because she looked pregnant. The Ming Emperor laughed at this mistake by Sunan Gunung Jati and send him home to Java.
But Princess Ong Tien Nio did seem "pregnant" even after the object was magically removed by Sunan Gunung Jati's prayer. She had fallen in love with Sunan Gunung Jati at first sight when he sat among the visitors to her father's palace in 1479.
Princess Ong Tien Nio was gifted in Chinese calligraphy and was knowledgeable about Chinese philosophy.
Princess Ong Tien Nio begged her father to seek Sunan Gunung Jati. The Emperor gave his blessing and she sailed to Java with a strong fleet of 7 ships and 100 strongmen. They reached Java and made it to Sunan Gunung Jati's place at Luragung (now Kuninga-red).
She was really hoping that Sunan Gunung Jati would marry her. Of course, Sunan Gunung Jati would only marry her if she accepted and converted to Islam. She accepted Islam and read the Shahadah. He then married the 21-year old Chinese Ming princess in 1481 as his second wife (my relatives say as his only wife).
She was re-named Nyi Ratu Laras Sumandi when she married to Sunan Gunung Jati. She is also called Lie Ong Tien in other another account.
They then re-settled in Cirebon where Sunan built Istana Pakungwati. However, the Chinese princess did not live long enough. She died after childbirth. She lived only 2 years after marriage to Sunan Gunung Jati and then passed away, aged 23 years old. She is laid to rest at Gunung Jati. Her grave is placed next to her husband's grave.
The Ming relics brought by Princess Ong Tien Nio to Java can still be viewed at the palace called Keraton Kasepuhan Cirebon. They are on the walls of the palace (Keraton) and the palace mosque (Masjid Keraton).
The marriage of the Chinese Ming princess brought much changes and new directions to Cirebon, even to this day.
Sunan Gunung Jati is Sharif Hidayatullah ibn Sharif Abdullah Umdatuddin ibn Ali Nurul Alam ibn Sheikh Husain Jamaluddin Akbar.
He is a prince from his mother's Pajajaran Palace side (keturunan Keraton Pajajaran). Hs mother is Nyai Rara Santang d/o Sri Baduga Maharja (Seri Paduka Maharaja).
Sunan Gunung Jati expanded his rule over Cirebon as a centre of Islamic dakwah, which then became the Cirebon Sultanate (Kesultanan Cirebon).
His son with the Chinese princess is named Adipati Awangga alias Pengeran Kuningan, also known as Maulana Hasanuddin, a pendakwah Islam just like his father. He spread his Islamic dakwah to Banten till it established the Banten Sultanate (Kesultanan Banten).

Father's Page
To
my father’s people,
Bismillah
hirrahma nir rahiim.
I am my father’s surviving daughter. I am named Faridah bt Abdul Rashid, which means, Unique Daughter of the Bright Slave of Allah SWT.
I am writing on his behalf, about himself and his people. He
asked me to write before he passed away, but I was busy then. And to ‘show my
respect for him and his people’, I therefore write this Father’s Page. The
other pages to make the book will be compiled later from selected pages of a
blog I had set up for him and his people - 262 Banda Hilir.
In 2007, when my father asked me to write, I was
researching on The Early Malay Doctors and was too busy. That research produced two
books, Research on The Early Malay Doctors 1900-1957 Malaya and Singapore, and
Biography of The Early Malay Doctors 1900-1957 Malaya and Singapore. Those books
were published by Xlibris Inc.
In this book, I have focused on how my father’s
people came to be and how they have survived to this day. I have collected
stories narrated and characters described of his people whom I have met, and
some of whom I had never met, for reason only known to my father and myself.
Writing about my father’s people is not at all easy.
It has taken me many years to locate his people, and many more years to try and
piece together pieces of a big jig-saw puzzle, in order to get a clearer picture of his
people.
Many narrations have contributed to this worthwhile
effort. I hope a forthcoming book will hold its place in the hearts of his
people.

1924 Flood in Banda Hilir, Pengkalan Rama and Klebang
Three areas of coastal and riverine Malacca were submerged by seawater due to spring tides. Paddy fields were also destroyed. This incident was published in the newspaper on 10 December 1924.
Not since 1920 has Malacca experienced such abnormal spring tides as visited the Settlement from Wednesday to Sunday a fortnight ago, says the Malacca Observer. Many of the properties in Klebang, Banda Hilir and Pengkalan Rama were so much under water that little canoes could be paddled across them.
