TRIO'S HAJJ IN 1896 AND MINANGKABAU GRAND HOUSE DESIGN 1897
From my brother (arwah Abang Mohd Sharif bin Abdul Rashid):
Tok Haji Mohd Sharif, Tok Haji Mohd Noordin and Tuan Guru Haji Khalil went to Makkah to perform the Hajj together and they returned late in 1896, after which the trio decided to each build a similar and typical style of Malay Minangkabau house, ie in 1987 or thereafter.
================================
MINANGKABAU HOUSE DESIGN 1897
================================
Haji Mohd Sharif made Rumah 262-T Banda Hilir. Haji Mohd Noordin made Rumah 302 Banda Hilir. Tuan Guru Haji Khalil made his house at Kg Hulu, but it was demolished as it was dilapidated. It should be the same design as the other 2 houses (262 was demolished circa 2007).
From Abang Sharif:Tok Moyang Haji Mohd Sharif built his big Minangkabau house in Banda Hilir at 262-T Banda Hilir (the house I lived in after I was born).
Tuan Guru Haji Khalil was a friend of Haji Mohd Sharif bin Ismail (Walid's father, Bapak's grandfather). Tuan Guru Haji Khalil, Haji Mohd Sharif and Haji Noordin made the same house like Rumah 262 Banda Hilir.
Tok Moyang Haji Mohd Noordin built his big Minangkabau house at 302 Ujong Pasir. The house at Ujong Pasir was later dismantled and moved to Duyong. Mahadhir Mohamad (cicit Hj Noordin has details).
Bapak said Tok Moyang Haji Mohd Noordin built his house at Ujong Pasir. It was a big black house.
=====================
DAUGHTER'S MARRIAGE
=====================
HABHAL visited Banda Hilir in 1963/64 when we lived at 262-T Banda Hilir, before I went to school in Alor Star, Kedah in 1965. He wore a white suit, tie, red fez and white pointed shoes. He was tall and of fair complexion like a Turkish man. He came alone without Nenek Amnah. He came inside Mak Sarah's house where we (all my cousins and I) were seated in the living-room. I saw him bend low to salam people who had gathered in the house. He was very gracious.
Che Mahani was also HABHAL's relative. They married in 1970 as HABHAL's second wife. They have no children. She was probably born circa 1930 (same age as my parents).
Haji Khalil's daughter is Che Mahani bt Haji Khalil. Her marriage to HABHAL appeared in the newspaper on 12 April 1970.

Majid Sate, Kg Baru
Jawatan terakhir arwah Pak Long Kjee, Datuk Mohd Salleh Majid ialah sebagai Chief Inspector of Mines Malaysia! Kini beliau sudahpun arwah.
