Asiah bt Hj Mohd Sharif Ya, Ya Tampin or Nenek Ya Bapak's aunt |
Full name: Asiah bt Haji Mohd Sharif
Call names: Bapak called her Ya. I called her Nenek Ya. She is referred to as Ya Tampin.
Husband: Haji Ibrahim of Tampin, a businessman (Bapak said mamak Tampin). He had a kedai runcit called Tampin Store.
Children: None. Nenek Ya was barren. She adopted a son.
Both Haji Ibrahim and Nenek Ya have died. Haji Ibrahim died first. Nenek Ya then moved back to Banda Hilir after her husband died.
Her relatives built a house for Nenek Ya in Bandar Hilir. I saw the house being built. It was painted bright light green when it was first ready. Then it was painted bright yellow. Now it is white. It looks small on the outside but it is quite spacious inside.
Asiah bt Haji Mohd Sharif is Nenek Ya. She is Bapak's aunt. She is the daughter of datuk moyang Haji Mohd Sharif bin Ismail of Banda Hilir. She lived in a house adjacent (next) to Mak Sarah's house in Banda Hilir, in kawasan Masjid Banda Hilir, on tanah wakaf.
Her sibs are Walid (Mohd Yusope, eldest), Nenek Ani (Mahani), Nenek Amnah (Singapura), and Nenek Ja (Alijah). Nenek Ya is the youngest, thin, and with thick dark eyebrows.
When she was in Banda Hilir, Nenek Ya would often help Nenek Ani to teach Quran. Nenek Ani was so old - she had to rest often and laid down to rest her head upon many pillows and used a nipah fan to cover her face and rested.

From Bapak's 1984 little maroon diary (28 April 1984):
Ya meninggal di Melaka 28 April 1984 - tanam di Lorong (Jalan) Panjang |

From Mak Bedah (8 June 2011)
Walid had 5 sibs - Walid (himself is eldest), Mahani (Nenek Ani), Amnah (married to HABHAL, Singapore), Alijah (Nenek Jah) and Asiah (Nenek Ya).
Nenek Ya (Asiah) married a mamak businessman, Haji Ibrahim of Tampin Store in Tampin, but they had no children. She adopted an Indian boy.
Haji Ibrahim had a kedai runcit called Tampin Store based in Tampin.

From me (26 Sept 2017)
Moin (kawan Mira) went to find out about Haji Ibrahim and Tampin Store in Tampin. Some elders probably still remembered him. There is a shopping complex where the Indian Muslims sell spices. His shop was probably in this complex in the late 1950s- early 1960s.
------------
From me
Haji Ibrahim died and Nenek Ya moved back to Banda Hilir and lived in a house built for her, next to rumah Mak Sarah. I remember Nenek Ya went to live in Tampin, and I remember Nenek Ya returning to Banda Hilir after her husband died. She returned to Banda Hilir alone and then later adopted the boy.
------------
Adopted son
Nenek Ya adopted a son. I have seen this son a few times but I don't remember the name or face anymore. He was probably a primary schoolboy or teenager in the early 1960s when we lived in Banda Hilir. Nenek Ya was fair but her adopted son was dark, probably an Indian Muslim boy?
---------------
From Bapak
Bapak said Nenek Ya's adopted son wants to sell her house. Bapak said it is against undang-undang Syariah as the land is tanah wakaf and belongs to Masjid Banda Hilir.
------------
From me
Nenek Ya's house was built after Mak Sarah's house; after Mak Sarah's husband died in the Port Klang tragedy (her husband drowned), before her youngest son Mustafa was born.
