Full name: Haji Zaini bin Haji Ahmad

Call names: Mak Bedah addressed him as Mama Zaini, sometimes Nana Zaini. He is also referred to as Cikgu Zaini as well as Zaini HABHAL.

Date of birth (DOB): 1926 (based on his retirement in 1981 - 55 years of work)

Occupation: schoolteacher and kicap producer

According to Bapak, Zaini was tall. He was a Raffles College runner and badminton player. He became a schoolteacher at Pulau Bukom. He was known as Cikgu Zaini.

He retired by 12 September 1981 and went for Hajj with his wife on 21 September 1981 (see invitation letter below).

His parents were already deceased when Cikgu Zaini went for Hajj in 1981.

He became the Director of HABHAL & Sons Trading, continuing the soy sauce business after his father. He was the second HABHAL director after his father.

He was the eldest son of Haji Ahmad bin Haji Abdul Latiff (HABHAL).

His brothers are Mohamad and Mahmud.

His sisters are Zaiton, Saadiah and Aishah.

Marriage:

Zaini married in Kajang. Bapak drove a Morris Minor to see him. There is no photo of Cikgu Zaini's marriage to Cikgu Saadiah.

Saadiah is from Kajang, but lives at Masalink near Woodlands, Singapore.

She was a former schoolteacher.

She is ~70 years old in 2016.

She runs the HABHAL business that makes the HABHAL soy sauce in Johor Bahru, Johor.

Her father is Haji Buyong Lenggang.

JEMPUTAN KENDURI ARWAH (Tahlil), RETIREMENT, AND HAJJ 1981

Cikgu Zaini, wife Saadiah and sons, invited Bapak to their house for kenduri arwah (tahlil) and before going for Hajj.

Cikgu Zaini had retired in 1981 - aged 55 years. His wife Cikgu Saadiah was ~35 years old in 1981. She's ~70 in 2016.

His parents, HABHAL and Nenek Amnah, have passed away. Nenek Amnah passed away in late 1960s. HABHAL remarried to Nenek Mahani in 1970 and he passed away before/by 1981.
