Interview
According to an interview with Tan Sri Dr Abdul Majid (1921-2013), Kg Baru, KL, in May 2007, Kg Baru was set up to break up the Chinese monopoly over KL. Malay people were brought from Melaka to Kg Baru, KL, under the directive of Police Chief, Henry Syers. Thus, Kg Baru had sub-villages with Melaka names, and the residents have roots in Melaka. Datuk Nengkong was a Chinese in Melaka, possibly a Baba.
One of the early Malay doctors who served at the Special Malay Hospital in Kg Baru was Dr Abdul Latiff bin Abdul Razak, the first Malay doctor of Bugis descent. Tan Sri (then a small boy) recalled having been treated by Dr Abdul Latiff at the Special Malay Hospital in Kg Baru.
Tan Sri Dr Abdul Majid was born on 15 November 1921 in Kg Baru, KL. He passed away on 24 March 2013 and is interned at the royal graves at Makam Diraja in Shah Alam.
Dr Abdul Latiff bin Abdul Razak was born in 1889 in Pasir Penambang, Kuala Selangor, Selangor. He passed away in 1956.
The biographies of these 2 doctors above are in my book, Biography of the Early Malay Doctors 1900-1957 Malaya and Singapore (Xlibris, 2012). Tan Sri's autobiography is An Old Man Remembers (2006).
History of Kg Baru, KL
Source
Kg Baru was established in KL in 1899. It was an Agricultural Settlement established under Section 3(1) The Malay Agricultural Settlement (Kuala Lumpur) Rules 1950. The Settlement was initially 89 hectares. The Malay Agricultural Settlement (MAS) is monitored by the MAS Board.#
According to Tan Sri Dr Abdul Majid bin Ismail, there are many villages within Kg Baru. There are many Malay houses, Sekolah Kg Baru, Masjid Kg Baru, and a Special Malay Hospital in Kg Baru.

Mohd Amin was said to be the first person to have build a house in Kg Baru when it was first established in 1899. He was a trusted man whom the British believed could look after the largely Javanese Malay community which eventually settled here. They were largely farmers, and they grew mainly vegetables to supply the nearby market, Pasar Chow Kit. Fresh fish was supplied from Port Swettenham (now Port Klang).
Mohd Amin was the adopted son of a Javanese Malay man, Hassan Long bin Datuk Nengkong.
From family accounts, Mohd Amin was founder of Kg Baru in KL. He built the first house in Kg Baru, KL. His plot of land was near the old initial Kelab Sultan Suleiman wooden building.
In Kg Baru, KL, Mohd Amin worked as a market supervisor (penguasa pasar) at Pasar Chow Kit in Kuala Lumpur. Thus, he was called Mat Amin Pasar. He obtained free supply of fish and vegetables from the stall owners.
Tanah Wakaf
Mat Amin Pasar also donated land for building Masjid Kg Baru, but it was wealthy businessman Haji Bachik of Bukit China in Malacca who funded the building of the masjid. See separate post on Hj Abu Bakar bin Ahmad @ Haji Bachik.

Marriages
From various accounts of his grandchildren and grandson-in-law (Pak Cik Hassan), we know that Mohd Amin Pasar had 4 wives.
- First wife: Che' Pah; Mohd Amin @ Mat Amin Pasar married Che' Pah circa 1895/6. She had an only son named Abu Hassan.
- Second wife: Sekmah; Mohd Amin @ Mat Amin Pasar married Sekmah circa 1899/1900. She had 8 children. She is the mother of Nenek Inchek. She died circa 1914 when Nenek Inchek was 7 years old (Darjah 1).
- Third wife: Anjah bt Nae'mat; Mohd Amin @ Mat Amin Pasar married Anjah bt Nae'mat (after Sekmah died) circa 1914/5. She had 8 children. She is the mother of Bik Rama. Anjah and Tan Sri Dr Abdul Majid's father, Ismail bin Nae'mat, are siblings. Enjah bt Mohd Ariff (Tan Sri's mother) is Anjah's niece.
- Fourth wife: Hasnah (she was known as Nenek Senah); Mohd Amin @ Mat Amin Pasar married Hasnah circa 1933/4. She was childless with Mohd Amin, but she had children from a previous marriage.
Altogether, Mat Amin Pasar had 17 children from 3 of his 4 wives; a fourth wife was barren with Mohd Amin, but had children from her previous marriage.
Nenek Inche had 17 siblings from 3 mothers; a fourth mother was barren with Mohd Amin, but had children from her previous marriage.

1. BAIZURA @ SHARIFAH BANOM @ BAINUN
(Che' Pah)
First wife: Che' Pah.
Mohd Amin @ Mat Amin Pasar married Che' Pah circa 1895/6.
She had an only son named Abu Hassan bin Mohd Amin (b.1897/8).
What was her full name?
Was she Banom?
Was she Sharifah Bainun?
Was she Baizura?
If Mohd Amin @ Mat Amin Pasar married Sekmah (second wife) circa 1899/1900, then he could have married Che' Pah (first wife) before that, maybe circa 1895/6. Maybe she died circa 1897/8, leaving behind an only son. So Mat Amin Pasar then married Sekmah. So Abu Hassan bin Mohd Amin could have been born in 1897/8.
Most Malay girls in Malaya marry at age 12 (going on 13) once they have their first menses (menarche). So Che' Pah was 12/13 circa 1883/4.
Most Malay lads in Malaya marry at age 21-25 once they have secured a job. So Mohd Amin @ Mat Amin Pasar married Che' Pah circa 1895/6 when he was 21-25 years old. This means that Mat Amin Pasar was a working man by 1895/6 when he first married Che' Pah.
Based on his estimated year of marriage to Che' Pah, Mohd Amin Pasar's DOB is estimated to be between 1870-1874. His record with details of his birth date should be in the British registration record of Births and Deaths for 1870-1874. Boleh try pergi check this.
2. SEKMAH
Second wife: Sekmah
Mohd Amin @ Mat Amin Pasar married Sekmah circa 1899/1900.
She had 5+3 children = 8 children.
All her children have passed away.
She is the mother of Nenek Inchek.
She died circa 1914 when Nenek Inchek was 7 years old (Darjah 1).
Children: 8
- Datuk Mohd Noor bin Mohd Amin (b.1900/1-d.1955)*****
- Aminah bt Mohd Amin @ Mak Ngah (b.1902/3)
- Muhamad Saleh @ Tok Alang (b.1904/5) of Kg Baru in KL. He is the father of Mak Cik Jamilah; he is abang Nenek Inchek
- Aishah bt Mohd Amin (b.1906/7-d.1978) @ Esah @ Bik Esah @ Inchek @ Nenek Inchek. I called her Nenek Inchek. Her mother died when she was 7 years old. She married at age 12 (turning 13), to Mohd Yusope bin Hj Mohd Sharif of Banda Hilir @ Bapak punya Walid @ my Jaddi @ my datuk sebelah Bapak
- Nyonya bt Mohd Amin (b.1908/9)*
- Jamaliah bt Mohd Amin (b.1910/11) ***
- Zawiyah bt Mohd Amin (b.1912/13)****
- Ismail bin Mohd Amin @ Pak Busu Mail (b.1914)**
**Ismail bin Mohd Amin @ Pak Busu Mail was born before his mother Sekma died in 1914, when Nenek Inche was in Standard 1 (aged 7).
***Jamaliah bt Mohd Amin - her DOB is estimated. She is adik Nenek Inche. She died young. Her name was added on Geni.com by Sharif, my eldest brother.
****Zawiyah bt Mohd Amin - her DOB is estimated.
*****Datuk Mohd Noor bin Mohd Amin - his DOB is estimated based on approx. 2 years subtracted for each child before Nenek Inche. His actual birth date is unknown.
If Datuk Mohd Noor bin Mohd Amin is the eldest child of Sekmah, and was born in 1900/1, then his father Mohd Amin @ Mat Amin Pasar married Sekmah in 1899/1900.
3. ANJAH BT NAE'MAT
Third wife: Anjah bt Nae'mat (sister of Ismail bin Nae'mat, father of Tan Sri Dr Abdul Majid bin Ismail @ Coco @ Koko). Mohd Amin @ Mat Amin Pasar married Anjah bt Nae'mat (after Sekmah died) circa 1914/5. She had 8 children with Mohd Amin @ Mat Amin Pasar
Mat Amin Pasar had 8 children with Anjah. All are deceased.
Either her husband/son was the Ambassador to Japan.
- Idris bin Mohd Amin @ Tok Busu (b.1930/1)* berkahwin dengan Zainab (Nenek Busu) dari Terengganu. Mereka menetap di Jengka. Tok Busu sudah meninggal.
*All birth dates of Anjah's children are estimated. There is no record of their actual birth dates.
Maybe Anjah died a few years after giving birth to Idris @ Tok Busu and Mohd Amin @ Mat Amin Pasar remarried in 1933/4.
Mohd Amin @ Mat Amin Pasar married Hasnah circa 1933/4, but he soon died between 1932 and 1942 and aged about 66, and widowed Hasnah took little boy Idris and went to live with Tok Rashid's family in Serdang.
In Serdang, Tok Rashid and Mohd Yusope bin Hj Mohd Sharif (my paternal grandfather) were colleagues and they were good friends with Idris bin Mohd Amin @ Tok Busu, who had little education before the Japanese war.
Mohd Yusope bin Hj Mohd Sharif then married Aishah bt Mohd Amin @ Bik Esah of Kg Baru. They went to live at Jalan Imbi, KL. My father (Abdul Rashid) was born at home in Jalan Imbi, KL. The family moved to Banda Hilir, Melaka during the Japanese war when KL was bombed, and remained in Malacca in the post-war till I was born.
Meanwhile, Tok Rashid and Idris bin Mohd Amin @ Tok Busu went to work in Bukit Besi in Terengganu during the Japanese war. They extracted iron ore for export to Japan. That was when Idris bin Mohd Amin @ Tok Busu met Zainab @ Nenek Busu and they married. He worked as a welder (pengimpal). They then moved to Jengka Pusat when the FELDA opened there. Can try and obtain stories of Tok Busu from Nenek Busu and the 4 children.
4. HASNAH
She was childless with Mohd Amin, but she had children from a previous marriage. Mohd Amin @ Mat Amin Pasar married Hasnah circa 1933/4.

Bik Endon was very thin. She had good knowledge of keladi, which she taught my mother. She said the keladi stem/root must be boiled to remove itchiness before cooking. She also showed us where she stored rice - in a tall bin.
Their house was near the railway crossing in the Malay housing scheme at Jalan Fajar, Alor Star, Kedah. My family visited them at their Malay house when the housing scheme was newly opened. All the houses were wooden houses built on stilts. The houses here were nicely lined along both sides of the streets. Our house, a big government bungalow, was further up the road at 56 Jalan Day, Alor Star, nearer the royal complex of houses.

Relationship:
Enjah bt Mohd Ariff is the niece of Anjah bt Nae'mat. Anjah bt Nae'mat is the aunt of Enjah bt Mohd Ariff. Anjah bt Nae'mat died circa 1920. Enjah bt Mohd Ariff married circa 1920.
I met Nenek Enjah twice. Some grandaunts and aunts came to visit us at 56 Jalan Day in Alor Star, Kedah btween 1964 and 1967. That was the first time I heard her name. She was with the other ladies, so I could not figure out which one was her. I remember trying to find out which one was Nenek Enjah.
Then my family and I visited a big wooden house with light green interior and many closed windows in KL. I don't know whose house it was but it was a beautiful Malay wooden home on stilts, with light green interior. We sat in the big brightly-lit living-room with closed windows on three walls. There were intricate carvings above the windows, which were airholes for ventilation. Then I recognised Nenek Enjah as I was a bigger girl. We talked about Rashidah (anak Mak Nya) becoming anak angkat Bik Jenab. I don't remember seeing Rashidah at this house and I never met Rashidah as a child.
