From me:
I remember Tok Alang. He was very thin and very tall. He usually wore a white Chinese singlet and a blue-white kain pelekat. Whenever we visited Tok Alang at home in Kampung Baru in KL, Bapak and Tok Alang would talk and their conversation was endless. I don't know what they talked about. Nenek Alang would always cook lunch for us. It took her very long to cook as she had to go to pasar first and then clean the fish and vegetables before she got down to cooking. I could die waiting for lunch to be ready. I don't understand why she took so long to cook. I later found out that she didn't have a stove and was sharing a stove with a neighbour in the vicinity, at "rumah atas". That explains it I guess.Mak Cik Jamilah/Makcik Mila (Jamilah bt Muhamad Saleh) said she is the eldest child of Pak Lang and Mak Lang, but Bapak said to me that Tok Alang had another daughter and Makcik Mila was second.

From Mak:
Mak said the family was doing well by selling wedding linen and prep (perhiasan perkahwinan). They were very good seamstress and made beautiful wedding stuff for Malay weddings. One of their best products is the wedding bed cover and throw pillows which nobody else in KL could make. I've seen a blue bed cover they made and that was very well-sewn despite not having a sewing machine. A lot of their handiwork was hand-sewn. -------

Rumah Tok Alang Kg Baru, KL
Bapak often took us to visit rumah Tok Alang in Kg Baru, KL. I remember Bapak drove down the road and we passed by the stadium. Once we passed by the stadium, I knew Tok Alang;s house was nearby. We then passed by the playing field with an old white grandstand before reaching his house. There were a few boys playing football on the dry field.
There were 2 houses in Tok Alang's compound. Nenek Jenab lived in the front house. I went in that house once ... to see some katil pengantin bedcover on a bed by the window. Tok Alang and family lived in the hind house that was on the ground. I remember the front entrance, side window, kitchen at rear and the exit door. I can't recall what was outside the exit door.
Tok Alang's house in Kg Baru, KL is extant. It is a little blue house behind Quill City Mall.

The little blue house address was No. 10 Jalan Stoney, Kg Baru, KL. Tok Alang and family lived there in the 1960s-1970s when I was growing up. The road is now Jalan Dewan Sultan Sulaiman.
