Nenek Jepun
Nenek Jepun is Aishah bt Abdullah, a Japanese lady whom Ami Aziz married. They lived in a brick double-storey shophouse. That's as much as I can remember. We visited them at Aidifitri in Penang.

- With the greatest possible respect, I feel there is little relevance
between this heading "The Japanese in Penang" and the subsequent
subject matter ie. the relationship between two cousins.
Perhaps it might be better to explain in some detail the real connection between Mazalifah Aziz, her adopted mother Aishah Abdullah and the latter's husband Aziz Yamani, the proprietor of Asia Motors garage in town. Then the choice of heading would have made some sense.
The heading would make even more sense if it was shown how Mazalifah's personal life was affected by the Japanese Occupation in Penang. I am not the best person to enlighten you on this as I am not quite certain if these revelations would be welcomed by her family members.
In any case, the best person to relate this account would be someone directly connected to Aziz Yamani himself. - April 26, 2011 11:10 AM

Descendants of Mohd Hussain Khayyat
Before you continue to read, please be informed that girls of Arabic descent have Siti in their names when they are unmarried. However, when these girls get married, their Siti names are automatically changed to Umi names. Thus, Siti A becomes Umi A. Similarly, they are called Siti before marriage, and Umi after marriage. That is Arab name and tradition.
From Siti Salamah bt Sheikh Mohammed, Sharifah Alwiah bt Syed Sahil and Sharifah Mariam bt Syed Alwi:
Mohd Hussain Khayyat had 2 daughters, Siti Noor and Siti Rogayah.
Siti Rogayah bt Mohd Hussain Khayyat married to Wan Teh. They have 2 children, Siti Kalsom and Mohd Salleh.
Siti Noor bt Mohd Hussain Khayyat married to Syed Alwi. They have 2 children, Sharifah Mariam bt Syed Alwi (Prof Syed Mohsin's mother) and Syed Mohamad.
Sharifah Mariam bt Syed Alwi married to Syed Sahil Jamalullail. They have 8 children, 4 sons and 4 daughters:
- Syed Omar Syed Sahil
- Sharifah Zahrah Syed Sahil
- Syed Mohsin Syed Sahil (deceased)
- Sharifah Sakinah Syed Sahil
- Sharifah Alwiah Syed Sahil
- Syed Mohamad Syed Sahil
- Syed Haizar Syed Sahil

The link between the Malacca Arabs and the Penang Arabs is via Ami Aziz Alyamani. Ami Aziz Alyamani was the younger brother of Pahmah. Ami Aziz Alyamani was a man of small stature in old age. However, Tok Kalthom (Batu Uban) said Ami Aziz Alyamani had a big build.
From Bapak
Bapak never mentioned the full name of Pahmah and Ami Aziz Alyamani or their father. I therefore asked Shaik Abdul Aziz Al-Khaiyath - the son of Tok Kalthom in Kg Batu Uban, Penang.
Bapak had told me that Pahmah (Siti Fatimah bt Sheikh Mohamad bin Salem Alyamani) was fair like a Chinese (putih macam Cina). Pahmah could be a Nyonya. Pahmah's younger brother was Abdul Aziz bin Sheikh Mohamad (Ami Aziz Al-Yamani).

There were 2 men named Aziz in Jelutong, Penang. Ami Aziz Alyamani was of small build. The other man, Aziz Ibrahim, was a man of big frame. He was a politician. His biodata is in the Penang Free School magazine.I'm referring to Ami Aziz Alyamani, the man of small stature, who had once owned the European car business in Jalan Anson, Penang, and who married two wives - 1. Siti Rahmah bt Abdul Rashid Makawi and 2. Aishah bt Abdullah (Nek Jepun).

Abdul Aziz bin Sheikh Mohamad (Ami Aziz Al-Yamani) married and lived in Penang, in a small Malay wooden house by the sea at Jelutong Beach.
However, there was another place I met Ami Aziz Alyamani, during Hari Raya Aidilfitri - at an endmost white shophouse where Nek Jepun lived. It was a shophouse by a big tree, before he lived at the yellow house at Hutton Lane.
Did Ami Aziz marry 2 ladies? Yes, he married Nek Jepun later, but did not have any children with her. She had previously married a policeman. They adopted a Chinese girl as their daughter (Mazlifah Aziz). Both Nek Jepun and her adopted daughter often returned to Tokyo, Japan.

The British gave Ami Aziz Alyamani a European car business and also a house. This house is a big yellow double-storey bungalow behind Masjid Jalan Hutton (there is a small road at the side of the mosque that leads to his house). The road was formerly Hutton Lane.

Ami Aziz Alyamani's brick house was a bright yellow building. The lane is very narrow. There was a car parked in the shed adjacent to the big house. Masjid Jalan Hutton blocks the streetview of his house.

Jaafar bin Mohd Yusope
Full name: Jaafar bin Mohd Yusope
Call name: I called him Pak Cik Pau. Nonie called him Pak Pau.
Deceased 2015
From Bapak:
Pak Cik Pau married 3 times:
1. Minah
2. Maznah
3. Fatimah
First marriage
Mak Cik Maznah's children are:
1. Mohd Suhaimi
2. Muslifah
Suhaimi married but has no children. Muslifah married but is divorced. Pak Cik Pau has no grandchildren.
Third marriage
Then Pak Cik Pau married Mak Cik Fatimah. Her kids are all grown up. He has remained with Mak Cik Fatimah till now.
From me:
Pak Cik Pau is the most handsome of Bapak's brothers. Bapak is also handsome. Mak Cik Maznah was very kind and spoke softly. She cooked good dishes when we visited her at home.
Mak Cik Maznah became a single parent and supported her kids by selling cakes in Selayang. She always confided in Mak (I was in TKC then but heard from Mak). Mak helped her financially. She worked very hard, fell ill, and died. Mak became very sad when Mak Cik Maznah died.
Temper is something that runs in men. When syaitan invades humans, it can give rise to anger. The only way out of anger is to read Quran and avoid inheriting saka (evil spirits).
Pak Cik Pau passed away in 2015. I didn't get to see him. I met him when he came to our house in Minden Heights, Penang when Bapak died in March 2009. He was already unwell then.

HM Shah drove a Buick.
HM Shah would stopover in Malacca when en route to Penang. He would pick up Bapak as his guide and driver. While driving, they went past a short signboard (to Ipoh) that was partially hidden, and they got lost. They entered a quiet tiny road, a communist road! However, they went through the communist road and reached Penang safely.
-------
From Mak, 1972-1973:
Mak said HM Shah came to see her to ask about how and where about to build a seaside inn. He asked Mak for ideas. Mak gave him her ideas. Mak said he came to see her a few times.

Then I went away to TKC, Seremban for Form 4, 5 and 6.
I have never met H. M. Shah, but I have heard about him, first from Mak, and later from Bapak. Mak described him to me in the early 1970s. Bapak related about him in 2007, 2 years before Bapak passed away.
Klebang is after Limbongan, where Mak Sekmah and Pak Cik Mohamad and family had lived adjacent to Masjid Limbongan.
Limbongan was an ancient seaport, and where the Indians were brought into early Malacca by the British colonial masters.
Under Dutch rule, and later, the British rule, the people of Malacca were seggregated according to races and religions, and lived in different parts of Malacca. The non Muslim Chinese lived at Bukit China, near Durian Daun. The Chinese Muslims lived at Tengkera - they were rich imams. The Indian Muslims lived at Kg Pali, which is near Masjid Kg Keling at Jonker Street- they were educated Indians, including Munshi Abdullah bin Abdul Kadir, who worked for Stamford Raffles in early Singapore. The Arab, Javanese, and Sumatran Muslims lived at Banda Hilir, Umbai, Ujong Pasir and Pengkalan Rama - they spread Islam to Malacca. The Babas and Nyonyas occupied the brick terraced shophouses in Banda Hilir - they were rich business people. The descendants of the Portuguese lived in tiny houses at the Portuguese Settlement by the sea - they were fishermen. The white Christians lived in bungalows in Banda Hilir and Durian Daun, Malacca.
Dr Carleel Merican and second wife Sarah (a Nyonya) and family also lived in Klebang. They lived behind Kamariah Md Nor's house. Kamariah bt Md Nor's father was a famous early homeopathic Malay doctor - Dr (H) Md Nor bin Noordin. Both her parents were from Singapore and settled in Klebang. Kamariah's daughter is married to a descendant of HM Shah.

From Zakry Fitri bin Abdul Aziz (13 January 2016):
Zakry Fitri Ab Aziz has left a new comment on your post "H.M. Shah":
Zakry Fitri bin Abdul Aziz |
:: Zakry's grandmother was probably related to Tan Sri H. M. Shah. Their great-grandfather is Ali Shah Khan.::

From PearyKhan Heir (23 October 2016 at 21:55):
Allahyarham ada 2 isteri melayu+pakistan. Isteri pertama, 5 anak, selepas isteri pertama meninggal, beliau berkahwin dengan adik kepada arwah, 4 anak. Nyarus dan Hanief bukan anak beliau. Anak pertama Baharuddin (meninggal), anak kedua Zaitun (arwah), baru disusuli dengan Dr Kamal, arwah Prof Farida dan seterusnya.
